The leader of the Quds Force, Major General Qassem Suleimani, travelled back to Tehran on Friday with three names selected for the position of Prime Minister. The three names are Adel Abdul-Mahdi, Bayan Jabr and Ibrahim al-Jaafari. All three names selected are very pro Iranian regime.
AP news stated that the Iran President, Hassan Rouhani, would like to see PM Maliki be replaced or he fears Iraq will fragment. The Irans supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, wants Nuri Maliki to remain as Prime Minister of Iraq.
The United States has missed a great opportunity to assist the Iraqi government in fighting the terrorists by providing them with military hardware and ammunition. The Iraqi military ran out of Hellfire missiles three weeks ago. The US knows when the Iraqi government runs out of Hellfire missiles as the Iraqi government informs them daily. They have no prominent air support when conducting counterattacks against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
Last week, the Russian President offered to help the Iraqi government in any support. There has been a delay in the resupply of Hellfire missiles and the delivery of already purchased and paid for F-16 fighter jets from Lockheed Martin. PM Maliki recognizes that his military needs air assets to fight against the ISIL. Maliki contacted Russian President Putin and purchased fighter jets that will be delivered in three days.
Russias Defense Ministry has successfully delivered the Sukhoi Su-24 fighter jets to the Iraqi government. The Sukhoi Su-24 fighter jets will be used in support of Iraqi military operations against the ISIL that have taken over northern and western Iraq.
