The above photo is the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) riding in their Toyota vehicles into Anbar province. You can see from the picture that they are armed. In the first vehicle they are carrying a DSHK 12.7mm heavy machine gun. Each vehicle is carrying several terrorists armed with small arms, AK-47 and PK light machine guns. The ISIL has rode into the Anbar province and has currently settled inside the two Iraqi cities of Ramadi and Fallujah. The Iraqi government has stated they will not assault Fallujah or Ramadi and allow the local Sunni tribes to remove the ISIL terrorists from their cities.
The ISIL have been imposing strict Islamic rules and have given orders to the residents of Fallujah. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the new rules are as follows:
Close all music stores
The establishment of Islamic Courts
Women have to be accompanied by a male family member
The ISIL are continuing to have sophisticated weapons smuggled in from the main smuggle routes into Fallujah and Ramadi. The weapon pictured is a KPVT 14.5 mm that can shoot armored piercing shells. This would destroy any armored vehicle the Iraq Army has in their inventory. The Iraqi continues to position their armored vehicles and tanks outside the cities of Ramadi and Fallujah. As of this time, the Iraqi Army have not received any orders to assault.
The ISIL are using pistols with silencers to conduct hit and run raids on Iraq Police checkpoints. What they do is that they travel in a civilian vehicle, then stop next to an Iraq police vehicle, say parked on the road, then immediately jump out and shoot the driver along with any passengers. This gives the ISIL the element of surprise and a quick get away.
Members of the Iraq Special Forces were ambushed by the ISIL. The date and the exact place cannot be determined by watching the video. The Iraq Special Forces members went hiding inside a make shift building and were later surrounded by the ISIL terror group. The Iraq Special Forces made the decision to surrender and came out of the building only to be taken hostage by the ISIL. It did not appear that they had put up a struggle. I didn’t see any weapons being fired from the Iraq Special Forces and there were no small unit tactics being deployed by the Iraq Special Forces against the ISIL terrorists. I did however, observe one of the Iraq soldiers with a bandage on his hand. It’s obvious that he was wounded but unknown how.
All the Iraq soldiers had their hands tied by zipped ties behind their backs. They were all taken to an unknown location and put in front of a camera for propaganda purposes. The Iraq Special Forces Soldiers appeared scared and I believe that they all may have known their fate. After the interview, the ISIL terror group brought the Iraq soldiers to an additional unknown location. At this second unknown location, the ISIL terrorists executed the Iraq soldiers with an AK-47 aimed at the back of the heads. These ISIL terrorists have now committed murder and should be brought to justice.
The ISIL are using trucks fitted with the DSHK, a heavy infantry machine gun. It fires a 12.7×108 mm cartridge and can literally go right through vehicles and buildings that are commonly constructed in Iraq. In the above picture you can see two light trucks, both are equipped with the DSHK weapons. These vehicles are easy to spot and could easily be taken out by use of armed drones but Iraq currently does not have them. In the absence of drones the Iraq Army would need to use a combination of snipers and a good small unit tactic. I noticed that the armed militants currently have no armor protecting themselves and that they are out in the open space.
On another note, you can often see the ISIL conduct show of force parades inside the towns of Fallujah and Ramadi. The ISIL does this because they want to put their weapons on display to intimidate the residents of Fallujah and Ramadi. You may notice that in the videos being published on YouTube that some Fallujah residents are showing support for the ISIL as they cheer for them on the streets.
Prime Minister Maliki has reported that he would not assault Fallujah and he is relying on the Sunni tribes inside Fallujah to remove the terror groups. This stance has not shown any results in getting rid of the ISIL from both Fallujah and Ramadi. The ISIL remain and are getting stronger as more ISIL terrorists travel to Fallujah and Ramadi by way of the smuggling routes in Anbar province. The delay in the assault by the Iraqi army against the ISIL in Fallujah just give the ISIL more time to prepare their defensive positions and get more organized before the pending assault. The Iraqi Army is just wasting time. This delay will only cause more fatalities and wounded Army members for the time when they will eventually be forced to go and eliminate the ISIL inside these areas.
The Iraqi Army continues to wait for the arms coming from the USA. Air cover is essential when fighting inside an urban area. The urgent re-supply has not happened as of this writing.
More reporting is forthcoming as I will be watching and reporting the activity on Fallujah and Ramadi.
