The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) have secured several border towns to include:
Walid crossing – Syria
Turaibil crossing – Jordan
Qaim crossing – Syria
It appears that the ISIL are better trained, better equipped and more experienced than the Iraqi Army in urban combat operations. The Iraqi security forces have retreated from the Anbar province and are withdrawing from the area.
The Iraqi Air Force has two Cessna planes capable of firing the American made Hellfire missiles. The Iraqi military have currently run out of Hellfire missiles being used to target the ISIL.
The Sunni extremists that have taken a large area of western Iraq are now able to move freely between Iraq and Syria. This will allow the ISIL militants free reign and uninterrupted supply lines.
If the ISIL were to attack Baghdad they could do so from the west along the Euphrates River.
The militants took over the towns Ana, Rawa and Rutba on Saturday.
