The local pro-government forces have killed a commander with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) an al-Qaeda breakaway in the city of Mosul. Abu Wahab al-Dameshqi a commander of the ISIL was killed by Iraq’s tribal forces. The Iraqi tribal leader Sheikh Sa’ad al-Talei said the tribal leaders would not allow the ISIL terrorists to occupy the villages and regions of Nineveh province.
There are reports in Baghdad that there is a media blackout. This is unconfirmed as of 8:30 PM CST. The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad increased their security by receiving 50-100 U.S. Marines and U.S. Army personnel. The U.S. Embassy relocated some staff to other locations in Iraq, including Basra and Erbil.
The United States and Great Britain will team up, provide intelligence, and assist in air strikes to the Iraqi government. The British Army has already sent their officers to Iraq. The use of drones and air strikes were among the possible military options to assist the Iraqi government.
Prime Minister Nuri Maliki has been implementing his own security plan in place. Checkpoints checking vehicles and documents of individuals have increased through out Baghdad. You can see more Iraqi army patrols and have conducted raids on houses. PM Maliki had searched the city’s Sunni neighborhoods such as Adhamiyah. One resident said, “They think there are sleeper cells of Sunni rebels that will rise up and attack when ISIS approaches,”
The ISIL located in Mosul are offering cheap gas and food if residents who have left return. The ISIL is restoring power, removing traffic barricades in order to appeal to the Iraqi’s to come back to Mosul. This is unusual considering the ISIL is known for brutal methods of torture and killing people. The ISIL conducted similar methods after seizing cities in Syria to only return to what they know best. Torture, beheadings and rule over the people.
The Sunni extremists ISIL have taken over the town of Tal Afar in the northwestern Iraq. The city is located outside of Mosul where severe fighting took place. The Shia residents have fled to the west and Sunni residents have fled to the east.
Security forces have killed more then 279 terrorists with ISIL in Saladin province.
The CEO of IQ Networks, an Internet Service Provider in Iraq have been ordered by the Iraq government to shut down social media sites. The ISP company shut down YouTube, Facebook and Twitter and also the virtual private networks (VPN) which is used to by pass filters.
The Iraqi Air Force launched air strikes and bombarded the positions of ISIL in areas of Hajaj and Abu Tuma within Beiji district in northern Tikrit.
Iraqi Air Force kill 30 militants of the ISIL west of Mosul in the al-Islah neighborhood. The information was coordinated with the residents of the area.
