Iraq Ambassador to U.S. going to Texas
The defense contractor Lockheed Martin has announced that they will be delivering the first of 36 F-16 fighter jets to the Iraqi government. Iraqi Ambassador Lukman Faily will travel to Ft. Worth, Texas on Thursday for a ceremony at which the USG will be formerly deliver the first F-16 to Iraq. The Iraq Ambassador said “they know that the sooner and the wider capabilities they provide us, the more ability we will have to reduce the vicious cycle of killing where the terrorists attack our people.”
The Iraqi government ordered 18 F-16 fighter jets in 2011 and placed another order for 18 in 2012. The Iraqi government very soon will be able to protect its airspace since the U.S. Air Force had left the country in Dec 2011. Up until now the Iraq government has no air defense capability. This will change upon the arrival of the first F-16 fighter jet.
