The German government is expanding its plans in its fight against the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group in Iraq. The German military is considering operating a military training camp in the Iraq city of Erbil. Erbil is the capital of the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) and currently there are 13 German soldiers in the area of Erbil training the Peshmerga soldiers.
The German military in addition to the training is also providing weapons to the Peshmerga military. The Peshmerga soldiers are training not only in Iraq but also in Germany. Its unknown how many Peshmerga soldiers are going through military training in Germany.
Germany will be setting up one of eight training centers. The article from the Europeonline-Magazine is reporting that about 10,000 Kurds are to be outfitted with guns, shoulder fired weapons rocket launchers, rocket-propelled grenade launchers and vehicles.
