On Saturday, February 14, 2015, unknown gunmen went into a private bank in Baghdad and stole 13 million dollars and 100 million dinars. Iraqi police stated that the robbers wore uniforms and carried automatic weapons. The Iraqi police are investigating the bank robbery in the Rashid District.
A Sunni Shiek tribal leader who was travelling by vehicle from southern Baghdad was killed Friday night by unknown gunmen. The Shiek travelling with his son and his nephew who is also, an Iraqi parliamentary member, was kidnapped and taken to a location in Sadr City. A fake checkpoint with set up with unknown gunmen who kidnapped the Shiek and the Parliament MP. The Shiek was killed, and his body was found inside a car north of Baghdad. The Iraqi parliament member was severely beaten and left on the side of the road.
The response to this incident could very well cause the Iraq Sunni’s inside the government to leave the Iraq government.
A tribal leader in Anbar province is quoted as saying “a collapse could be within hours.” If the Tribal Chief and his fighters abandon the Anbar province then the Iraqi’s will be forced to leave. They both support each other and if one leaves then the other will follow suit. clearly, the Iraqi army is incapable of conducting any combat operations on their own.
The Pentagon is sending fresh troops to Kuwait. It’s looking like 4,000 from the U.S. Army Third Brigade Combat Team (BCT) Ft. Carson, CO will be deploying shortly to Kuwait. Meanwhile, the Army unit is in Kuwait so it will be as of no surprise if they move from Kuwait to Iraq to battle the Islamic State terrorists.
The US has been shipping all the up-armored vehicles and military equipment to prepare for the upcoming war against the Islamic State. The Iraqi Army is not capable of conducting any combat operations without direct assistance from the U.S. military.
As we know, the Iraqi banking system has been struggling. What many do know know is that one of the causes has to do with issues pertaining to the Rafidain Bank. They have just implemented their smart card technology to accept payments to Iraqi’s that are on the government payroll. This means that Iraqi’s who are receiving their salaries from the Iraq government can now go to any ATM and collect their pay. It also means that any Iraqi that is earning a state pension can now go to any ATM and receive his pension. As reported, the Islamic State are continuing to smuggle oil from the northern oilfields in Iraq to Turkey. The ISIL are smuggling the oil from the Saladin provinces at a rate of 300 trucks per day. Even with the lower oil prices the ISIL continues to rake in money that rightfully belongs to the Iraqi’s.
The Iraqi Stock Exchange (ISX), for the month of January 2015, had a down month bringing in only 15 billion dinars. In December 2014, the ISX traded at 55 billion dinars. The ISX suspended three companies because of failing to report their third-quarter earnings in 2014.
Some of you may or may not have heard the name of an Iraqi named Hadi al-Amiri. It just so happens that he is one of the most powerful men in Iraq. He wears two hats. He is a commander of the Badr Brigade, a paramilitary organization as well as the Iraqi Minister of Transportation.
The Badr Brigade is an element of Iran an armed wing of the Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution Iraq (SCIRI). In the past, the Badr Brigade is said to have been involved in sectarian killings. The responsibility for the security of Diyala’s province is the Badr Brigade. The Badr Brigade has been very much involved in active combat with the Islamic State militants. Recently, the Badr Brigade removed the Islamic State fighters from Barwanah.
In Barwanah, 72 people were executed and many place blame with the Badr Brigade. The Badr commander is quoted as saying “It’s a battlefield and if anyone from Barwanah was killed, give us their names. We are ready to investigate and will punish whoever is responsible.”
The Badr Brigade is on the march to the Peshmerga controlled city of Kirkuk. They want to remove Islamic State from Kirkuk. The Peshmerga commander in Kirkuk is making the Badr Brigade aware that they are not welcome in Kirkuk. The Commander, al-Amiri, has told the Peshmerga that he can go anywhere and that no one can stop him. We are keeping very close attention to this matter.
