Ministry of Finance has Reservations of the new Iraq Currency says CBI

Central Bank of Iraq

A lot of information comes out of Baghdad in the media.  The local media reports in Baghdad are either in support of the new Iraq currency or against the new Iraq currency. It all depends on who is doing the talking and reporting and which political affiliation.

I have written that the new currency is on hold for the year 2012.  I know the articles state in September 2012.  However, the new Iraq currency if the Iraq government and the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) agree to print and distribute the new Iraq currency, it will be initiated in the beginning of the year 2013.  This will coincide with the new Iraq federal budget that the Iraq government will be because the new Iraq currency will be incorporated in the next Iraq Federal Budget.  This is still not a for sure thing as there are ongoing talks between the CBI and the Iraq government.

This is all contingent on if everything goes well between the CBI and the Iraq government.  They all have to agree on the project as Dr. Sinan al-Shabibi and his staff at the CBI can not act with out having government approval.

Remember, when the new Iraq currency is distributed the Iraq money supply will increase to higher levels.  Later, they will withdraw the old currency gradually as time goes on.  Watch the CBI reporting numbers in the near distant future.  They will increase.

Here is an article published from Iraq media mentioning the Iraq Finance Minister opposes the new Iraq currency until next year 2013 to coincide with the Iraq federal budget.

Iraq Tariffs Not in 2012

Iraq tariffs not in 2012

Faygo Drinks

Iraq will not be implementing the tax on goods and services in 2012.  The Iraqi government can not afford the prices for goods and services to rise 10x or more and still be able to purchase lower price goods from China and neighboring countries.

Iraq continues to import a majority of their goods either from abroad ie. Turkey and Iran.
This is a delicate issue for the government and it has to be timed right for tariffs to work with Iraq.  There will not be any tariffs in Iraq anytime soon.  More pressing issues the Iraqi government is either working or not working on.

United Nations Report: Iraq Remains Chapter VII

United Nations Report Iraq Remains Chapter VII

Kuwait City

On Saturday, 16 June 2012 the United Nations completed a report about the relationship between the Kuwaiti and Iraqi governments.  The report was about the UN Chapter VII resolution in reference to Kuwaiti property and missing Kuwaitis.

The Iraq government did return some items belonging to the Kuwaiti government that was seized during the first Gulf War. There is additional property belonging to the Kuwaiti government that the Iraqi government has yet to find and return. How long twill this take no one knows for sure but I can tell you that this is a major milestone in the swift removal from Chapter VII sanctions.  I mean that until Iraq finds the property and those items outlined in the resolution of United Nations Chapter VII Iraq will be under Chapter VII for years to come.

The Kuwait Embassy inside Baghdad was evacuated last year during one of the major attacks inside the International Zone and those diplomats have yet to return to Baghdad.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon is quoted as saying that there is no tangible progress on the search for the Kuwaiti National Archives or the presence of reliable information about its fate.  According to the released report the Iraqi government has not done anything to retrieve any property belonging to the Kuwait government.

If you remember last month in May when the Iraq Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari stated that his countries commitment to resolve all outstanding issues with the Kuwaiti government.  Now we learn the Iraqi government has not done anything in resolving these issues between the two countries.

There is a rift between the two governments and looks like it will not be solved anytime soon.  With everything going on with the Iraq government ie. potential no confidence vote, the Iran meeting in Baghdad, the Erbil Agreement, Oil infrastructure and smuggling on a daily basis you can see why nothing has been done.
